RANDOM ACTS OF FLYNESS

RANDOM ACTS OF FLYNESS
SEASON 1

We curated an interactive experience in New York City in celebration of Random Acts of Flyness – the new HBO late-night series from artist Terence Nance, that explores patriarchy, white supremacy, and sensuality from a new, thought-provoking perspective. The two-day pop-up experience explored themes and cultural idioms expressed in the six-episode season.

A fluid, stream-of-conscious response to the contemporary American mediascape, each episode of Random Acts of Flyness features a handful of interconnected vignettes, showcasing an ensemble cast of emerging and established talent. Creator, director, and Random Acts of Flyness star Terence Nance and his collaborators weave together such themes as ancestral trauma, history, death, the singularity, romance, and more, creating a television show like nothing seen before.

Guest stars included: Dominique Fishback (The Deuce), Whoopi Goldberg (The Color Purple), Gillian Jacobs (Love, Community), Ntare Guma Mwine (The Chi, The Knick), Adepero Oduye (Pariah, The Big Short, 12 Years a Slave), Natalie Paul (The Deuce) and Paul Sparks (Boardwalk Empire), among others.

The Random Acts of Flyness experience featured a variety of vignettes and installations that reflect themes and scenes represented in the series. Designed to celebrate black culture, the two-day experience featured over five interactive elements including:

  • "Black Women Will Save Us All" Room – Recognizing the many Black Women who have and continue to make history

  • Sexual Proclivities of the Black Community – A re-creation of a bedroom set from a scene in the first episode which showcases a visual representation of nontraditional black love

  • Live Podcast Recording – A live recording of a podcast with the Random Acts of Flyness Creator and Director Terence Nance.

  • And much more..

After an exclusive VIP opening reception, the HBO Random Acts of Flyness Exhibit was open to the public for the weekend in SoHo, New York City. In addition, we held community screenings of the first episodes in Philadelphia.
